What ONE Thing Should You Tackle First to Boost Your Business Online?

🔍 Focus on SEO + Being Found Online

Paragraph Line Break

✓ Right now, your business is a hidden gem: Valuable, but hard to find.

✓ SEO (search engine optimization) is how people who are already looking for what you do can actually find you online.

✓ A few simple changes (like updating your homepage headline, refreshing your Google Business Profile, and creating dedicated Services pages) can make a big difference in how visible you are to potential customers.

Where you’re at right now:

You’ve got the expertise, the services, the passion… but it feels like you’re whispering into the void. The people who work with you love what you do, but the frustrating part is, there just aren’t enough of them finding you in the first place.

Right now, your business might look like this:

  • You rely mostly on word-of-mouth or referrals to bring in new clients.

  • Your website is live (yay!) but traffic is slow, and you’re not sure why.

  • You wonder why competitors are showing up on Google while you’re buried on page 3 or 4.

  • You secretly worry you’re invisible online… Even though you know you have something amazing to offer.

And let me just say: You’re not doing anything wrong.

You’ve been focusing on building your business, serving clients, and keeping the wheels turning. But now you’re ready for more. More visibility, more opportunities, more people finding you without you having to hustle so hard.

Online Entrepreneur

👋 Hi, I’m Kate Malcolm!

Kate Malcolm

I’m the founder of Bloom Digital, and I help small business owners make their websites, marketing, and online presence feel way less overwhelming (and a lot more fun).

After moving from England 🇬🇧 to Canada 🇨🇦 and building my own online business from scratch (course launches, podcasts, viral moments and all), I realized my sweet spot is blending creativity with strategy and turning the “ugh, tech stuff” into something approachable and even enjoyable.

I’m here to cheer you on and help your business grow online in a way that actually fits your business, your budget and your life.

Here’s your pep talk:

First off, huge pat on the back for even being here. 🎉
The fact that you took this quiz means you know there’s room for growth… and that already puts you miles ahead. Don’t forget how far you’ve come in building your business. It’s worth celebrating!

Here’s the thing: Going viral on Instagram is fun, but it’s fleeting.
SEO is different. It’s long-term, sustainable, and attracts people who are already in a buying mindset.

Think about it: People scrolling social media are usually just passing time. But when someone goes to Google and types “chiropractor in Port Perry” or “family photographer near me”, they’re actively looking for a solution. That’s when you want to show up.

And the same goes for AI (like ChatGPT or Claude). Artificial intelligence experts have said that the same principles you prioritize for SEO make all the difference to your chances of being recommended there as well.

And here’s the best part: SEO isn’t some scary, techy mystery. It’s just about helping these search platforms understand what you do and making it easy for the right people to find you. A few small tweaks can start to move the needle, and you don’t have to be a computer wizard to make it happen.

So, deep breath. You’re not invisible. People just need a clearer path to find you, and that starts now.

Here are 3 easy things you can do this week to start getting more eyes on your website:

1.

Update Your Homepage Headline

Think of your homepage headline as your “welcome sign.” It’s the very first thing visitors (and Google!) read, so it should spell out what you do in plain English.

👉 How to do it:

  1. Swap anything vague like “Helping you live your best life” for something VERY specific: “Chiropractic care for women & kids in Port Perry” or “Custom cakes for weddings and events in Durham Region.”
Think about what words people are actually typing when they search for your services and make sure they make the cut. That way, no one is guessing. And Google knows exactly where to slot you in search results.

  2. Make sure this headline is set to the “Heading 1 (H1)” text style. A quick Google search on how to do this, depending on your website-building platform, should help you.

  3. Check that there are no other “H1” headlines on the remainder of your homepage. There should only ever be one “H1” per webpage. Set all other headlines to H2, H3, H4…

2.

Claim (or Refresh) Your Google Business Profile

This one is HUGE, especially for local businesses. Google loves to show those little map results when people search for services near them, and your profile is what puts you there.

👉 Why it matters: A complete, up-to-date profile boosts your visibility for FREE. Plus, customers can see your hours, reviews, photos, and contact info without even clicking to your site.

👉 How to do it: Go to Google Business Profile, claim your business, and fill out everything you can. Add fresh photos, update your hours, and list your services. Ask your most recent customers to leave a review.
Already got one? Give it a refresh this week with a new picture or a short post. Google loves recent activity.

3.

Create a Web Page for Every Service You Offer

If all your services are listed on one "Services" page, it can be harder for Google to understand exactly what you offer. Imagine someone searches for "branding photographer in Toronto." They're much more likely to find (and trust) a page that's entirely about branding photography than a generic page listing five different services (including newborn, wedding, etc.)

👉 How to do it:

Start with your most popular service and create a dedicated page just for that. Explain who it's for, the problem it solves, what the process looks like, and answer a few common questions. Include examples of your work and a clear call-to-action.

Don't worry about creating pages for everything overnight. As your business grows, you can gradually create pages for the rest of your services too!
